Flexbuy Device App Privacy Notice

Last updated 1 November 2026

1. About this notice

This notice explains how Kredit Global ("we", "our" or "us"), through Flexbuy, handles information from the Flexbuy device app. The app is installed on phones and tablets leased through Flexbuy and is shown as "FlexBuy" on the device.

It adds to the Kredit Global Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab), which covers the rest of your dealings with us, including your Flexbuy application and lease. Where this notice and the Privacy Policy differ on the device app, this notice applies.

2. What the app is for

A Flexbuy lease is lease-to-own: we own the device until you have paid for it in full. The app keeps the device linked to your lease until then. It is set up at the store before the device is handed to you, as your lease contract describes.

While your lease is open, the app:

  • Stops the device being factory reset and stops the app being removed.
  • Turns off USB debugging and safe mode, stops other users being added, and keeps the date and time set automatically, so these can't be used to get around the lease.
  • Restricts the device if a payment is overdue, after a warning (see section 6), and lifts the restriction as soon as the payment arrives.
  • Installs updates to itself when we release them.

If the device is wiped from its recovery menu while the lease is open, it may ask for a Flexbuy account before it can be set up again.

When you finish paying, the app removes every restriction and then removes itself. The device is then entirely yours.

3. Information the app collects

  • Device identifiers: The device's IMEI number(s) and serial number, read once when the app is set up, to match the device to your lease.
  • Device details: The make, model and Android version of the device, and the version of the app.
  • Lease status on the device: Whether the device is restricted, when it last checked in with us, and whether an app update succeeded.
  • Security signals: Whether USB debugging is on, whether the device's bootloader has been unlocked, whether its clock has been changed, and whether someone tried to remove the app's administrator rights.
  • Notification token: A token from Google Firebase Cloud Messaging that lets us tell the device to check in straight away, so a payment unlocks it quickly.
  • Unlock codes: A code you type into the app to unlock the device, which is sent to us to check.

4. What the app does not collect

The app does not read or collect your messages, contacts, call history, photos, videos, files, location, browsing history, the content of other apps, your notifications, what you type, or your passwords. It shows no advertising, and we do not sell information from it.

5. Calls on a restricted device

Emergency calls always work. The restriction screen has a button that calls Flexbuy support directly.

While the device is restricted, the app checks the number of an incoming call on the device itself, so that a call from Flexbuy support can ring through and other calls are declined. The number is compared on the device and is not stored or sent to us. Calls work normally whenever the device is not restricted.

6. When a device is restricted

We restrict a device only under your lease contract: when a payment stays overdue past the period set out in it, after warning you by SMS, email or a notice in your Flexbuy account. Authorised Flexbuy staff can also place or lift a restriction in line with your contract. Every change is recorded.

A restricted device shows the amount to pay, the account to pay into and how to reach us. It keeps its internet connection so it can see your payment, and it unlocks by itself once the overdue amount is paid. A restriction placed by our staff is lifted once the amount they set is paid, or when they lift it. Flexbuy support can also give you an unlock code.

7. Permissions the app uses

  • Phone: To read the device identifiers once, to know when a call is in progress, and to call Flexbuy support from the restriction screen.
  • Answering calls: To answer a call from Flexbuy support, and to decline or end other calls, on a restricted device.
  • Call log: Used only to see the number of an incoming call while the device is restricted (see section 5). The app does not read your call history.
  • Internet and network status: To check in with us about your lease.
  • Notifications: For payment reminders and warnings.
  • Starting at boot and alarms: To reapply your lease status after a restart and at a payment deadline.

As the device's administrator, the app also applies the protections in section 2. It does not use accessibility services, read your notifications or access SMS.

8. Why we use the information

  • To link the device to your lease and show its status to you, to our staff and to the store that sold it.
  • To restrict the device when a payment is overdue and lift the restriction when you pay, as your lease contract allows.
  • To protect the device from tampering, theft and fraud while it is still ours.
  • To keep the app working and up to date.
  • To answer your questions, handle complaints and resolve disputes, and to meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

We rely on the performance of your lease contract and our legitimate interest in protecting a leased device, as described in the Privacy Policy.

9. Who sees the information

  • Kredit Global and Flexbuy staff: Only those who need it to run your lease, support you or prevent fraud.
  • The store that sold you the device: Its staff can see the device's details and status in our merchant portal: its make, model and identifiers, whether it is set up and checking in, whether it is restricted, and its security signals. They cannot restrict or unlock it.
  • Service providers: Our hosting provider, and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, which receives the notification token and a signal to check in, never your lease details.
  • Authorities: Regulators, law enforcement or courts, where the law requires it.

10. How we protect it

The app talks to our servers only over encrypted connections, and each device signs in with its own key. We keep only scrambled (hashed) copies of device keys and unlock codes. Access to device information is limited to authorised staff and recorded.

11. How long we keep it

We keep device information for as long as your lease is open, and afterwards only for as long as we need it for our records, to resolve disputes or to meet legal and regulatory requirements, as described in the Privacy Policy. When the app removes itself after your final payment, its information on the device is deleted with it.

12. Your rights

You have the privacy rights described in the Kredit Global Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab), including asking what information we hold about you and asking us to correct it, and you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Because the app is part of your lease contract, it stays on the device until the lease is paid in full or ends in line with the contract; it can't be removed on request before then.

13. Changes to this notice

We will update this notice when the app changes what it collects or how it works. The latest version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated.
